17:1 Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it Than a house full of feasting with strife.
有块干饼,平静安宁,强如设筵满屋,大家相争。
17:2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, And will share in the inheritance among brothers.
仆人办事聪明,必管辖贻羞之子,又在众兄弟中同分产业。
17:3 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But Jehovah tries the hearts.
鼎为炼银,炉为炼金;惟有耶和华熬炼人心。
17:4 An evildoer gives heed to wicked lips, And a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
行恶的,留心听奸诈之言;说谎的,侧耳听邪恶之语。
17:5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.
戏笑穷人的,是辱没造他的主;幸灾乐祸的,必难免受罚。
17:6 Grandchildren are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their fathers.
子孙为老人的冠冕,父亲是儿女的荣耀。
17:7 Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool; Much less are lying lips for a noble man.
愚顽人说美言本不相宜,何况尊贵人说谎话呢?
17:8 A bribe is like a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor: Wherever he turns, he prospers.
贿赂在馈送的人眼中看如宝石,无论他转往何处,都得顺利。
17:9 He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
遮掩人过的,是寻求爱;重题旧事的,离间密友。
17:10 A rebuke strikes deeper into him who has understanding Than a hundred stripes into a fool.
一句责备话深入聪明人的心,强如责打愚昧人一百下。
17:11 An evil man seeks only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him.
恶人只寻背叛;所以必有严厉的使者,奉差攻击他。
17:12 Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man Rather than a fool in his folly.
宁可遇见丢崽子的母熊,不可遇见正行愚妄的愚昧人。
17:13 Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house.
以恶报善的,祸患必不离他的家。
17:14 The beginning of contention is like letting out water; Therefore abandon strife before it breaks out.
纷争的起头如水放泄;所以在争竞爆发之先,就当制止。
17:15 He who justifies the wicked man, and he who condemns the righteous man, Both of them are an abomination to Jehovah.
定恶人为义的,定义人为恶的,都为耶和华所憎恶。
17:16 Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, When he has no sense?
愚昧人既是无知,为何手拿价银买智慧呢?
17:17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
朋友时常亲爱,弟兄为患难而生。
17:18 A man lacking sense gives his hand as a pledge And becomes surety in the presence of his neighbor.
在邻舍面前击掌作保的,乃是无知的人。
17:19 He who loves transgression loves strife; He who raises high his entrance seeks destruction.
喜爱过犯的,喜爱争竞;高立门户的,自取败坏。
17:20 He who has a crooked heart finds no good, And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil.
心存乖僻的,寻不着好处;舌弄是非的,陷在祸患中。
17:21 He who begets a fool does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy.
生愚昧子的,给自己带来愁苦;愚顽人的父,毫无喜乐。
17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
喜乐的心乃是良药,忧伤的灵使骨枯干。
17:23 A wicked man receives a bribe from the bosom, To pervert the ways of justice.
恶人从人怀里受贿赂,为要歪曲公正的道路。
17:24 Wisdom is before the face of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
聪明人面前有智慧,愚昧人眼望地极。
17:25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him.
愚昧之子使父亲愁烦,使生他的忧苦。
17:26 To also punish the righteous man is not good, Nor to strike nobles for their uprightness.
惩罚义人为不善,责打正直的尊贵人,也为不善。
17:27 He who restrains his words has knowledge, And he who is cool in spirit is one who has understanding.
克制言语的有知识,灵里冷静的有聪明。
17:28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise; When he shuts his lips, he is counted prudent.
愚妄人静默不言可算为智慧;闭口不说可算为聪明。
